Colors are a bit muted, but the film has always felt a bit visually flat in comparison to Spielberg's other movies. We hear and feel the weight of each footstep as the water in the glass trembles, yet we can fully appreciate the distance they are travelling across.As with the first movie, the sight of intense rain combined with the lighting is what seems to make the image look better defined and more vividly rendered. And while many films have attempted to imitate its success, very few films have quite matched the intensity, the wonder, and the sheer spectacle of Steven Spielberg's 1993 classic. Older transfers titivated and sharpened into hi-def presentations isn't the way to go for any film, let alone something as big as Jurassic Park. The images here don't look all that amazing I'm afraid, and reveal that the studio has skimped on the Blu-ray release of one of its most illustrious and bankable franchises. Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern star in this thrilling, action-packed blockbuster from acclaimed director Steven Spielberg and based on the novel by Michael Crichton.And as before, one precocious youngster — this time via Malcolm's daughter (Vanessa Lee Chester) — joins an expedition team to another of Hammond's (Attenborough) dinosaur resorts, a top secret location where the extinct animals live freely. The characters are a blast to watch, performances are memorable, the scares are still scary and the effects are terrific, though they are starting to show their age a little (especially under the HD microscope). There are decent edges throughout, from the rain drops on the car windscreens to the sharpness of the flares used to distract the Tyrannosaur. Vocals can, at times, feel a bit drowned out by the all the commotion, but it's rather clear for the most part.

And if nothing else, you now have a great disc to use when demoing your system, or if you just want to annoy your neighbors. The visit to ILM studios shows the process of creating CGI creatures with specific lifelike details and making it all work with the live action sequences. Crafted with typical Spielbergian plot devices, camera moves and peril, coupled with Michael Critchon’s story of out of control creations menacing humans, there was always scope for a winner. The artificiality of some of this marks it down of course, and the lack of tangible resolution is also a shame. As the pterodactyl lumbers out of the grey fog, the purposely mired contrast aids the atmospherics no end, and detail and edge definition is still fairly well maintained.It's strange seeing characters so underdeveloped and two-dimensional in a movie that really requires the human aspect to sustain believability.
