About this deal

The game puts you in the role of a civilization that has just reached the stars and is looking to expand its reach and see what else awaits you. The answer is that a lot awaits you. You’ll discover new races, find loads of planets with resources and treasures to collect, etc.

As you venture forth, you’ll have plenty of quests to keep you busy. But be ready for conflict because not every species in the universe is friendly. This time, Gamelyn Games sends us into a fantasy setting where the kingdom “ain’t big enough for the both of us.” The distance a ship can move is dictated by your Empire's Movement Technology. The higher it is, the further the ship can go. In an interesting twist, ships may have a different speed during each of these three turns. There are all kinds of vessels like battlecruisers, destroyers, scouts, and even minesweepers. There are certain intricacies about how to enter unexplored systems, enemy occupied hexes and how to initiate colonization on normal or barren planets, these are however easy to grok.

After the first round of Combat, any Combat capable ship may instead choose to Retreat to an adjacent System (hex) which is the same distance, or less, from one of its colonies. That System must not contain enemy units or be an unexplored System. If there is no legal retreat System available, Retreat is not possible. Bases and Ship Yards cannot retreat, nor can Colony Ships, Mining Ships, or MS Pipelines as they are too slow. A digestible but grand sci-fi epic Eclipse is another whopping sci-fi 4X, but it's notably faster and simpler than the likes of Twilight Imperium. Image: Lautapelit.fi If you can somehow get over the pieces behind difficult to move (or peek at, when viewing your own ships), the game is fantastic, offering options that really are not available in ANY 4X game that I have played. Choose from many races or create your own. Customize not only the appearance of your civilization but also details like their beliefs and history. Ready? Explore! In Stellaris, you can do anything: travel between galaxies, conquer new planets, harvest resources, and discover anomalies. And fight wars or take care of the development of the race, political relations with other inhabitants of space, energy consumption, and finances. This game equals endless strategic possibilities. Resolve Combat: Starting with your A Class units, and proceeding down through every Class, each ship has the opportunity to fire one time. A ship can be a target more than once. After the first round of Combat any firing unit may instead choose to Retreat. Good player reference sheets make it easy to look up what you are capable of doing based on your current technology levels. Starting out with only a few possible hull sizes for their ships, on which they can place any number of components to essentially create a unique ship, the player can research new hull sizes and components to use with them, eventually being able to build ships ten times the size of his original hull size. When this counter is discovered by your unit(s), the player to your right shifts your unit(s) 1 hex in any direction. If that hex contains an unexplored system it must be explored. If it contains an enemy you must enter Combat. After leaving the Lost in Space hex, the counter is removed and the hex remains empty for the rest of the game.

TI is an epic space game where each player controls an entire alien race in the Imperium. The previous emperor has died and players will struggle in the power vacuum to try and fill the void. The game itself offers plenty of strategic opportunities and it’s on the simpler side for rules. It’s perfect for family game night. Although direct confrontation is built-in, it isn’t 100% necessary for victory. What we Liked:
