The distinctive patterns in her illustrations which are both bold and delicate, and her colour palette of deep shades of blue threaded with gold, yellow and bronze, complement the story perfectly. She graduated in 2010 with a degree in Graphic Design and Illustration from the University of Hertfordshire. This is a lovely traditional tale which provides an alternative, yet enchanting, reason for the stars coming to exist in the sky. Mistry incorporates her Indian roots into her art, and draws from Indian folklore to create this tale. Poonam’s work is drawn by hand with black ink before she uses computer software to add colour and adjust the composition of her illustrations.Since the main idea in most folklore pieces is clear and focused, this could be used in a grade like third grade when they are just beginning to refine their comprehension strategies.

I actually didn’t know it would be a children’s book and I plan to gladly donate it to my local library who does not have a copy. The daughter of a fisherman worries about her father when he is out in his boat at night, so is thankful to the moon for lighting his way. As such, links could be made with the PSHE curriculum for introducing tolerance and respect for one another’s belief systems. She loves folklore tales and stories of Hindu gods and goddesses and these have been a rich source of inspiration in a number of her illustrations. It tells her to place each shard into the night sky, where it will twinkle and glow, so that the fisherman will always have light to guide him home safely. How the Stars Came To Be is about the story of a Fisherman's daughter who was worried about her father when the moon was not in the sky.

Therefore, this story would be helpful for illustrating to children that when a great deal of effort and care is put into a project or activity, there are great rewards. Bring out all the adjectives and accolades for the visually-stunning illustrations in this picture book. Bronnie is so lovely with the boys and we also felt that having a man enthusing about the books set a great example. however, although i love it when a book keeps to a theme the theme continued to the writing which made it difficult to read (dark font on dark background). There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors. I'm not sure I would give five stars to the story itself, but with the illustrations I really can't do anything but give a five star rating. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. This story has some of the most beautiful artwork, and gives children a great way to think about how the stars got to be in the places they are in, and why they make the constellations they do.
