About this deal

Anna finds a piece of information that links the killings to a much loved (not to mention well known) actor. Personally, i felt there was a lot of useless information about the house renovation, I get having sub plots but man, that was boring. Here however she's got her eye on the building's previous owner, Helena Lanark, and starts looking into the family.

I was worried going into a series at book 8 but I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope to go back and read the previous 7 books. During reading I did some googling as I was trying to understand the period it was set, and found this was a tv series starring Helen Mirren years ago! Lynda has received a huge amount of awards over her time in the field, including becoming an honorary-member of both the Liverpool John Moores University and British Film Institute.

She is the heiress of an immense family fortune and holds on to a dark secret of the horror which once occurred within the Lanark family house. However, this strong start doesn’t last for as long as I would have liked, with the more interesting case about the dead young woman being solved relatively quickly (although with an extremely dark solution), leaving only the mystery of the dead baby behind.

But she is impatient, irritable, downright rude a lot of the time, pompous, judgemental, and snobby. I generally enjoyed the plot of the book and all for a female lead in a senior position what we would term the boys club in the police force. Jane seemed to have a bee in her bonnet and at times it felt like she was inserting herself in all the wrong places. Jane solves the original case involving a dead young woman in record time and it involves a tragic turn of events.

Also, I must have missed some disclosure that the book is set in the 80’s, as I kept checking to see it had been published just this year, after things kept being mentioned which just didn’t fit with it being set in present time. She trained for the stage at RADA and worked with the National theatre and RSC before becoming a television actress. One of the cases that she is working on, that involves the murder of a quiet woman (there seems to be no motive that they can find), turns out it is linked to James Langton’s. A decomposed body of a young female has been found in an old air raid shelter in the garden of the Lanark's derelict house. I love this series and always enjoy the evolution of Jane's character - it was very exciting to see her once again take a step forward in career with her promotion.
